Assault Charges Against Kevin Porter Jr. Dropped Following Recent Update

Last month, Kevin Porter Jr. faced arrest on charges of assaulting his girlfriend, Kysre Gondrezick, in New York City.

Allegations suggested that Porter, former Houston Rockets guard, had forcibly squeezed her neck, leading to breathing difficulties and a supposed fractured neck vertebra.

However, Gondrezick’s lawyer countered these claims, asserting that there was no neck fracture, attributing her condition to a congenital issue.

Amid the ongoing legal proceedings, new reports emerged, indicating that Porter was cleared of a second-degree assault charge.

The New York Post reported that evidence was deemed insufficient, leading to the dismissal of this specific charge.

Despite this development, Porter still faces charges of second-degree strangulation and third-degree assault, which could potentially lead to a seven-year prison sentence if convicted.

During this period, the Houston Rockets sought to trade Porter, offering draft compensation to interested teams.

While some teams inquired about the trade, no concrete deal materialized.

Presently, Porter remains on the Rockets’ roster, but he was barred from attending training camp and hasn’t participated in any preseason activities with the team. His future with the Rockets is uncertain.

Rockets GM Rafael Stone emphasized that Porter’s involvement with the team was suspended upon learning of the allegations, leaving his return contingent on the NBA’s decision.

The league office, under the guidance of Commissioner Adam Silver, will play a pivotal role in determining the next steps in this ongoing case. Following his recent court appearance, Porter’s next hearing is scheduled for November 27.
