The Portland Trail Blazers have officially released guard Antoine Davis, according to the NBA transaction log.
Davis is likely to find a place with the Rip City Remix in the G League.
In addition to this, the team has confirmed their decision to extend guard Shaedon Sharpe’s third-year team option for the 2024/25 season.
This doesn’t impact Sharpe’s contract for the upcoming season, as his $6.3 million salary for 2023/24 was already secured.
The exercise of the option ensures that his $6.6 million salary for the 2024/25 season is now guaranteed.
Shaedon Sharpe, who was the seventh overall pick in the 2022 draft, is coming off a promising rookie season where he averaged 9.9 points and 3.0 rebounds per game in 22.2 minutes of play.
The 20-year-old is expected to take on a more substantial role in his second NBA season following the departure of Damian Lillard.
Sharpe, along with Anfernee Simons and this year’s third overall pick Scoot Henderson, is seen as the future backcourt for Portland.
Sharpe might occasionally transition to the small forward position when the team aims to have all three on the court simultaneously.
The Blazers will need to make another contract decision on Sharpe in a year, with the deadline until October 31, 2024, to decide on his $8.4 million option for the 2025/26 season.
Assuming this option is exercised, Sharpe will become eligible for an extension in the summer of 2025.
The Trail Blazers, in the midst of their preseason campaign, will be hosting the Phoenix Suns tomorrow at the Moda Center.
It’s worth noting that Robert Williams III, who joined from the Boston Celtics in a trade that also involved Jrue Holiday, will be available to make his debut for the Blazers as they go head-to-head against the Suns.
