Blockbuster Trade Proposal: Clippers Eye Pascal Siakam in Move from Raptors

An NBA journalist is suggesting a major trade where the Los Angeles Clippers would acquire Pascal Siakam from the Toronto Raptors. Tyler Watts, who writes for Fansided’s “Clipperholics,” proposed a trade scenario in which the Raptors would send Siakam and Otto Porter Jr. to the Clippers in exchange for Paul George.

In his recent NBA trade article, Watts noted, “The Raptors are also confronted with a tough choice.” He highlighted that Pascal Siakam is approaching the final year of his contract and mentioned Toronto’s absence from the playoffs last season, along with losing Fred VanVleet in free agency. The Raptors have to decide whether to embark on a rebuilding phase or commit to a long-term contract extension for Siakam while improving the team around him. Siakam’s name has surfaced in trade talks, and Watts suggested that a trade involving Siakam and a player like Otto Porter Jr. might be mutually beneficial. He elaborated that acquiring Paul George would provide the Raptors with a high-level scorer in the small forward position, adding more versatility to the team. On the other side, Siakam’s youth, size, and proximity to his prime could be appealing attributes for the LA Clippers.

Numerous NBA teams have displayed interest in acquiring Siakam through trade in the last three months. However, this interest has been somewhat tempered because it’s been clarified that Siakam wouldn’t commit to an extension with any team he’s traded to. Siakam has the option to sign for 30 percent of the salary cap either through an extension now or as a free agent in the upcoming offseason, whether with the Raptors or another team.

The Raptors have the possibility to offer Siakam a maximum contract extension spanning four years, amounting to a minimum of $192 million. Despite this, there haven’t been substantial talks about an extension as of now. It’s worth noting that Siakam hasn’t expressed a desire to be traded; he remains with the Raptors.

Siakam demonstrated impressive performance last season for the Raptors, with averages of 24.2 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 5.8 assists. His shooting percentages were 48.0% from the field, 32.4% from beyond the arc, and 77.4% from the free-throw line.

Recognized as one of the premier forwards in the NBA, Siakam hails from Douala and maintains career averages of 17.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 3.5 assists. Notably, he secured the 2019 NBA championship and was honored with the 2018-19 Most Improved Player of the Year Award.

Both Siakam and Clippers superstar Kawhi Leonard contributed to winning the 2019 NBA title against the Golden State Warriors in a six-game series. The potential for their reunion in Los Angeles adds an intriguing element to the situation.
