Chet Holmgren has been ruled out by his team, the Oklahoma City Thunders, for the 2022-2023 NBA season. That’s to say the rookie will miss his first season in the NBA as a professional basketball player.

Chet Holmgren suffered the possible injury while participating in The CrawsOver pro-am event in Seattle on Saturday, which was headlined by various NBA stars including as LeBron James and 1st pick Paolo Banchero of the Orlando Magics.

The center played one season at Gonzaga, finishing with averages of 14.1 points, 9.9 rebounds and 3.7 blocks per game. His college performance helped him become one of the top prospects in 2022 NBA draft.

In an announcement on Thursday, August 25, the Thunders said that “Chet Holmgren has sustained a Lisfranc injury in his right foot. Holmgren will miss the 2022-23 season.”

The player now joins a list of high draft picks who lost their first professional years to injuries. These stars include; Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers, Ben Simmons of the Brooklyn Nets, and Blake Griffin.

The General Manager of the OKC Thunders, Sam Presti, in a statement indicated that they will work together to offer the necessary support that Holmgren needs to fully recover from his injury.

“Certainly, we are disappointed for Chet, especially given the excitement he had about getting on the floor with his teammates this season. We know Chet has a long career ahead of him within our organization and the Oklahoma City community. One of the things that most impressed us during the process of selecting Chet was his determination and focus. We expect that same tenacity will carry him through this period of time as we work together and support him during his rehabilitation,” Presti’s statement reads.
