Clippers Eyeing DeMar DeRozan as Potential Replacement if Paul George Leaves

The Los Angeles Clippers could become a landing spot for Bulls’ DeMar DeRozan if they lose Paul George, as reported by Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.

The team would need to manage its salary cap effectively, but acquiring DeRozan via sign-and-trade could be a viable option once George’s contract is off the books. The Clippers have until June 30 to secure an extension with George before he becomes an unrestricted free agent.

DeRozan is also set to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason if the Chicago Bulls don’t extend his contract before free agency begins.

“However, one team worth monitoring as a potential suitor for DeRozan via sign-and-trade is the Los Angeles Clippers, should the franchise fail to re-sign Paul George in free agency,” Scotto noted. “George — who never received an offer higher than Kawhi Leonard’s three-year, $153 million extension — is HoopsHype’s top-ranked unrestricted free agent this summer.”

George had an impressive season with the Clippers, averaging 22.6 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 3.5 assists while maintaining solid shooting percentages. Despite his performance, the Clippers fell short in the playoffs, losing to the Dallas Mavericks in the first round.

DeRozan, on the other hand, showcased his skills with the Bulls, averaging 24.0 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 5.3 assists per game. The Philadelphia 76ers are also eyeing George, believing they have a genuine chance of signing him away from the Clippers, with a significant amount of cap space available.

Both George and DeRozan have impressive career averages, and if the Clippers manage to secure DeRozan, they could form a formidable trio alongside Kawhi Leonard and potentially James Harden.
