Former Portland Trail Blazers star Damian Lillard, who spent 11 years as the face of the northwest franchise, has undergone a significant shift in his professional life this week.
He has been traded to the Milwaukee Bucks. Simultaneously, there’s news of a major personal change, as he and his wife Kay’La are going through a divorce.
Damian Lillard and his spouse, Kay’la Hanson, have shared their lives for well over ten years. This striking couple, who are now in the process of getting a divorce, have three children: a son named Damian Jr. and a set of twins – a daughter named Kali and a son named Kalii.
After years of being in a relationship and even becoming parents, Damian Lillard and Kay’la Hanson officially became husband and wife on September 5th, 2021.
The star point guard proposed to her during the NBA All-Star weekend in Chicago, Illinois, back in February 2020.
The divorce filing, submitted in Clackamas County Circuit Court, cites “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the breakdown of their marriage as reported by Willamette Week
It appears that in December 2022, Kay’La Lillard moved into a $2.7 million home in West Linn, while Damian Lillard continued to reside in their $7.7 million West Linn mansion.
According to the filings, Lillard moved to a Tualatin residence in September of this year.
The unforeseen challenges in this journey could be even more daunting. This will undoubtedly be a difficult time for both Damian and Kay’La Lillard, not to mention their children.
When combined with the move to Milwaukee, the sheer intensity of these transitions is almost beyond comprehension.
We extend our condolences and best wishes to the Lillard family, especially their children. May they find a path forward that allows everyone to grieve and grow.
We’ve always emphasized that NBA players are humans first and athletes second. In this moment, let us all remember this.
