Daniel Theis to Sign with Pelicans

Daniel Theis has signed a one-year contract with the New Orleans Pelicans, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. As he heads into his eighth NBA season, the FIBA champion will also be leading Germany in the Summer Olympics.

The seasoned big man has been on the Pelicans’ radar for a while, and acquiring him now provides the club with a strong inside presence after losing Jonas Valanciunas, who was traded to Washington in a sign-and-trade deal.

Theis might compete for a starting spot, depending on how the Pelicans finalize their roster.

New Orleans will be the sixth team for Theis, who averaged 6.3 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 1.0 assists in 59 games with the Clippers last season. He joined L.A. in mid-November after being waived by Indiana.

Theis, 32, started his career with Boston in 2017. He also had brief stints with Chicago and Houston, and returned to the Celtics late in the 2021/22 season.
