Darko Rajaković Reveals Raptors’ Coaching Staff Roles

The Toronto Raptors are entering the upcoming season with a substantially revamped coaching staff, led by Darko Rajaković.

This transformation goes beyond just the change in the head coach, as Nick Nurse has departed.

Pat Delany, who previously coached in various NBA teams, including Washington, Orlando, Charlotte, and Miami, will serve as Rajaković’s top assistant, focusing on the team’s defense. Delany also led the team during the Summer League.

Jama Mahlalela, returning to the Raptors after a stint with the Golden State Warriors, will be responsible for overseeing the offense and special situations. He previously served as the head coach for the Raptors 905.

Joining Mahlalela on the offensive side is James Wade, formerly the head coach and general manager of the Chicago Sky in the WNBA. Wade will contribute to the offense and play a role in the analytics department.

Rajaković emphasized the importance of diversity in his coaching staff, and one of the additions, Mike Batiste, will focus on working with Toronto’s big players.

Batiste has experience in player development across the NBA and was a part of the Memphis Grizzlies in 2002-03.

Jim Sann is the only returning assistant coach for the Raptors and will work with the team’s younger players and those outside the regular rotation. He has been with the Raptors’ staff for the past six seasons, entering his seventh.
