Dbacks’ Zac Gallen left tonight’s game after just six pitches due to left hamstring strain, the team announced.
After one of his throws, Geno Suarez quickly called for a trainer, and Gallen was taken off the field right away as he didn’t seem alright.
The 28-year-old right-hander, who has finished among the top five in NL Cy Young Award voting for the past two seasons, hopped after releasing a fastball to DJ Stewart, his second batter.
The Dblacks, currently 25-30, are already dealing with the absence of right-hander Merrill Kelly, out since April 15 due to right shoulder inflammation, and left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez, who signed an $80 million, four-year contract but hasn’t pitched this season because of shoulder inflammation.
Rookie Bryce Jarvis took over for Gallen, who came into the game with a 5-2 record and a 3.12 ERA in 10 starts. It’s unlikely Gallen returns to the game.
