Frank Ntilikina Sidelined for 4 Weeks With Fractured Tibia

In a press release, the Charlotte Hornets announced that Frank Ntilikina sustained a non-displaced fracture in his left tibia during the preseason game against the Boston Celtics on October 19.

An MRI conducted on today confirmed this injury. Ntilikina will undergo reevaluation in four weeks, and updates on his condition will be provided as necessary.

Ntilikina participated in four preseason matches for the Hornets, maintaining an average of 3.0 points, 1.5 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 1.3 steals over approximately 16.4 minutes per game.

A former top-ten draft pick, selected at No. 8 overall in 2017, Frank Ntilikina, who is still just 25 years old, spent his initial four NBA seasons with the Knicks and the last two with the Mavericks.

In August, he inked a one-year, minimum-salary contract with the Charlotte Hornets as a free agent, but this deal only guarantees him $200,000.

The question arises as to whether this injury might lead the Hornets to release Ntilikina.

His absence for at least four weeks, with the regular season set to commence in a few days, is far from an ideal situation for either party, to say the least.

The Hornets are now facing a considerable challenge in their backcourt, with James Bouknight (knee), Theo Maledon (shoulder), Cody Martin (knee), and Bryce McGowens (ankle) all sidelined.
