Grizzlies Target UConn’s Donovan Clingan, Consider Draft Trade Up

According to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, the Memphis Grizzlies have placed UConn center Donovan Clingan “at the top of their wish list” for the NBA draft. However, they might not secure him if they stay at No. 9.

“Memphis has reportedly discussed trying to move up in the draft with several teams ahead of them,” Scotto reported.

Given the serious interest in Clingan at the top of the draft, the Grizzlies will likely need to move into the top three to get him.

Scotto’s Aggregate Mock Draft currently projects Clingan being picked at No. 6 by the Charlotte Hornets.

Teams looking to add size and rim protection will highly value Clingan, and the Grizzlies are “continuing to target a frontcourt addition this offseason,” Scotto notes.

This strategy is logical. While Jaren Jackson Jr. and Brandon Clarke provide solid frontcourt options, adding a true center would address a significant need. Aside from Alex Sarr, Clingan appears to be the top center available in this year’s draft.
