If Daryl Morey, the President of Basketball Operations for the Philadelphia 76ers, decides to trade James Harden to the Los Angeles Clippers, he reportedly prioritizes receiving future first-round draft picks rather than specifically targeting Clippers guard Terance Mann.
Vincent Goodwill of Yahoo Sports mentioned that Morey is focusing on accumulating draft picks that could contribute to potential rebuilding or retooling efforts by the 76ers. The need for a rebuild could become imminent if Joel Embiid also expresses a desire to be traded.
According to Goodwill, there is a prevailing belief in the league that Embiid might request a trade sooner than later, and it’s speculated that Morey is discreetly favoring a full rebuild. In such a scenario, the long-term value of draft picks would surpass the immediate contribution of a young player like Mann.

Regarding the Clippers’ draft picks, their potential value could be realized in the distant future. While they possess their first-round selections for 2027 and 2028, those in upcoming years are owned by the Oklahoma City Thunder, either directly or through pick swaps as part of the Paul George trade. However, these distant Clippers picks might hold considerable significance.
Given the ages of their notable players—33-year-old Paul George, 32-year-old Kawhi Leonard, 34-year-old Russell Westbrook, and potentially 33-year-old James Harden in a hypothetical scenario—the Clippers could be in a win-now mode, potentially jeopardizing their long-term prospects.
With existing commitments to the Thunder in the form of multiple draft picks, the Clippers might encounter a situation where they contend for a short period before sliding in the standings as their aging stars transition, retire, or experience performance declines.
In such circumstances, the 76ers might benefit from acquiring valuable draft picks in 2027 or 2028. While a prolonged rebuilding phase might not be appealing to Philadelphia fans, who recall the Process era, a trade involving Harden could prove fruitful in the long run if Morey secures draft picks rather than player assets like Mann.
