Important Injury Updates on Kawhi Leonard and Paul George from Clippers’ Tyronn Lue Ahead of Training Camp

With training camp looming just around the corner, Clippers’ head coach Tyronn Lue has offered injury updates regarding the conditions of both Kawhi Leonard and Paul George.

Injuries inevitably play a pivotal role in shaping the outcomes of each NBA season. Unfortunately, the Los Angeles Clippers have grappled with an array of injuries over the years, with nearly all of them impairing the team’s ability to contend for a coveted championship title.

Having achieved a milestone by reaching the Western Conference Finals for the first time in their franchise history in 2021, the Clippers have demonstrated their potential to ascend to the pinnacle of the NBA.

However, their prospects are invariably intertwined with the availability of their star players, Kawhi Leonard and Paul George.

Since their arrival at the organization in 2019, both of Los Angeles’ prominent All-Stars have encountered substantial periods of absence.

Kawhi Leonard has participated in around 52 percent of the Clippers’ games since the commencement of the 2019-20 season, while Paul George’s involvement has amounted to only 61 percent of the team’s total games during the same timeframe.

If they manage to maintain good health, the Clippers are well aware of their capability to contend for a championship—an outlook shared by their head coach, Tyronn Lue. Lue recently engaged in a discussion on SiriusXM NBA Radio with Frank Isola and Brian Scalabrine.

During the conversation, he shed light on the current status of his two star players in preparation for the upcoming training camp and provided insights into their anticipated availability.

Lue mentioned,

“We anticipate his readiness for training camp,” regarding Leonard. “He’ll be fully recovered when training camp arrives, and our focus is to ensure our medical team is well-prepared for that time. We’re careful with practices, games, and managing playing time appropriately. The same approach applies to (Paul George). Our team’s performance is exceptional when these two players are on the court.”

In the previous season, Leonard participated in 52 games, while George took part in 56 games. Throughout their tenure with the Los Angeles team, neither player has exceeded 57 regular season appearances in a single season.

Evidently, the Clippers noticeably elevate their performance when their All-Star duo is in good health. These two players are widely recognized as being among the league’s top two-way contributors. Looking ahead to the 2023-24 season, Los Angeles faces considerable significance due to the contractual matters they’ll need to address in the upcoming offseason.

This urgency underscores their aspiration to finally live up to the expectations attributed to them and establish themselves as genuine contenders for the Western Conference championship.

“We’re fully aware of our considerable talent and our potential to secure victories,” Lue elaborated. “Lawrence Frank, Mark Hughes, Trent Redden, and Mr. Ballmer have masterminded an excellent team and roster. Unfortunately, we haven’t been able to witness the final outcome of our efforts at the season’s culmination, which is indeed disheartening. However, it’s important to understand that our players are eager to play and compete. Continuously, we hope for the best and aspire to witness our team, with Kawhi and PG on the court, thriving as the season draws to a close.”

In sync with Coach Lue’s earnest wishes for the enduring fitness of his star athletes, a parallel sentiment resounds throughout the worldwide community of Clippers enthusiasts.

With both Leonard and George projected to be primed for the launch of training camp, the Clippers are poised to commence the 2023-24 season with an intact roster, a scenario that has been a rarity for what appears to be an extended duration.

As the season unfolds, the collective hope is that their stars’ physical well-being endures, enabling the Clippers to showcase their true potential and vie for the coveted championship title.
