Ja Morant to Meet with Adam Silver This Week Ahead of His Dec 19th Court Return

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver will meet with Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant this week ahead of his December 19th return, reports Joe Vardon of The Athletic.

Morant was suspended for at least 25 games in June for his second incident of brandishing a gun in public. Silver previously stated he would assess Morant’s readiness before reinstating him.

On Saturday, prior to the Pacers-Lakers in-season tournament final clash, Silver indicated Morant is on the right track during a press.

“I have been monitoring this situation closely,” Silver told reporters. “We together laid out a program for him over the last several weeks, and to the best of my knowledge, he’s complied with everything he’s been asked to do.”

Without their star player, the Grizzlies have struggled, holding a disappointing 6-15 record in the Western Conference. If Morant’s suspension is limited to 25 games, he will return on December 19th against New Orleans.

Last season, Morant was suspended for eight games after video showed him brandishing a gun in a nightclub. A second video surfaced of Morant with a gun while riding in a vehicle, leading to his latest suspension.

“We’re going to talk directly once, at least this week, before he comes back,” Silver said, “…and I think we’ll review the program and just make sure the conditions are in place for him to be successful going forward.”

The Grizzlies’ record this season is partly due to missing key players through injuries and Ja’s suspension.

Their performance in the in-season tournament was also poor, with a 0-4 record and early elimination. The team will undoubtedly look to improve upon their performance with Morant’s return to the court.
