Lakers Sign, Waive Quinndary Weatherspoon Ahead of Regular Season

OCT 20: The Lakers have officially asked for the release of guard Quinndary Weatherspoon, per the team’s announcement. Weatherspoon had initially been signed on October 19.

OCT 19: The Los Angeles Lakers are set to sign free agent guard Quinndary Weatherspoon to their roster, as confirmed by agent Daniel Hazan, according to Chris Haynes Bleacher Report.

While the specific terms of the contract haven’t been disclosed, it’s probable that Weatherspoon will sign an Exhibit 10 contract.

This type of contract would make him eligible for a $75,000 bonus if he is waived but spends at least 60 days with the South Bay Lakers, which is the G League affiliate of the L.A. Lakers.

Quinndary Weatherspoon, previously a second-round pick at No. 49 overall in the 2019 NBA Draft, has accumulated 42 NBA appearances between the Spurs and the Warriors from 2019 to 2022.

His playing time has been limited, with an average of 6.5 minutes per game. He did not compete in the league during the last season, instead opting to play professionally in China.

Notably, Weatherspoon had a recent stint with the Israeli club Maccabi Ra’anana during the preseason, where he participated in a few games and impressed with an average of 15.5 points, along with a 40% three-point shooting, as reported by Haynes.

Upon the official signing of Weatherspoon, the Lakers will have 18 players under contract, including 14 on guaranteed standard contracts and all three two-way contract slots filled.
