Lionel Messi Reportedly Fit for Quarters, Will Miss Final Group Game Against Peru

Lionel Messi knows his legs are often targeted when he plays for Argentina against CONMEBOL teams in intense South American football, as seen twice in this edition of the Copa America.

In the tournament’s opening match, Canada’s Moise Bombito made headlines with a harsh tackle on the Argentine captain, quickly going viral. More recently, against Chile, Gabriel Suazo made sure Messi felt the pressure throughout the entire game.

At the 24th minute mark against Chile, Messi was subjected to a fierce challenge, resulting in a painful knee-to-thigh collision that required medical attention. The medical staff provided a massage and applied analgesic cream, allowing him to continue playing, though the discomfort lingered in his mind.

According to Gaston Edul of TyC Sports, tests conducted today, Thursday, revealed that Messi has not sustained a major injury. The strain appears to be minor, and he is working towards being fit for the quarter-finals. As a precaution, Messi will be rested for Argentina’s final group game against Peru.
