The Milwaukee Bucks have made changes to their preseason squad, reducing it from 21 players to 18.
In an official announcement today, they’ve released guards Omari Moore and Jazian Gortman, along with forward Drew Timme.
Although NBA teams can carry up to 18 players into the regular season (15 with standard contracts and 3 with two-way deals), the Bucks are not yet prepared for the opening night.
Presently, they have 15 players with guaranteed contracts, one (Marques Bolden) on a training camp deal, and two on two-way agreements.
The decision to waive Moore is somewhat unexpected, despite his limited impact during the Summer League and preseason.
Moore, an undrafted rookie out of San Jose State, had signed a rare two-year, two-way contract with the Bucks in early July, as most two-way deals typically cover just one season.
Gortman and Timme, both undrafted free agents this summer, came to the Bucks after their stints with Overtime Elite and Gonzaga, respectively.
Both were initially on Exhibit 10 contracts and now seem likely to become affiliated players for the Wisconsin Herd, Milwaukee’s G League affiliate.
If Gortman and Timme spend at least 60 days with the Herd, they stand to earn a $75,000 bonus.
It remains uncertain whether the Bucks will finalize their regular season roster by converting Bolden into a two-way contract or if they have further moves in the pipeline in the days to come.
