Oklahoma City Thunder Gearing Up for Biggest Season in Years

The Oklahoma City Thunder have had many successful seasons, but the upcoming 2023-24 season is expected to be their biggest in a while.

Even though they haven’t been in the NBA for very long, the Oklahoma City Thunder have put together some really thrilling teams.

The times when Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, and James Harden played together gained attention all around the world. When Paul George joined, and even Carmelo Anthony, in 2017, it created excitement in the league and energized the Thunder fans once again.

This year’s Thunder team, led by superstar Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Josh Giddey, Jalen Williams, Chet Holmgren, and others, is getting ready for a highly anticipated season.

After their longtime superstar players left, which led to acquiring Gilgeous-Alexander, the Oklahoma City team aimed to rejuvenate their talent through the draft, and they succeeded.

In 2021, they took a chance on then-18-year-old Josh Giddey as the sixth overall pick. In 2022, they secured their highest pick in years at No. 2 overall and selected Holmgren. Although Holmgren, a skilled interior player, didn’t play last year, they still managed to land Jalen Williams as the Rookie of the Year runner-up with the twelfth pick.

In addition to these four players, the team has enhanced its roster through trades and other draft selections. Cason Wallace, Ousmane Dieng, Luguentz Dort, Isaiah Joe, Vasilije Micic, and Jaylin Williams are all expected to contribute meaningful minutes for the team.

Now, Oklahoma City has established its core for the future, signaling their commitment to winning games and assessing their position in the Western Conference.

All of these factors combine to make the upcoming season for Oklahoma City potentially the biggest and most thrilling since they acquired Paul George six years ago.

It’s important to remember that the team is still largely focused on development. Giddey is just 20 years old, while Williams and Holmgren are 21, and other players like Cason Wallace and Ousmane Dieng still need more NBA experience.

However, Thunder fans now have more reasons than ever to be enthusiastic about the team’s direction and the approaching season.
