Paul Sorvino, the Emmy and Golden Globe-nominated actor who starred in films such as Goodfellas and The Firm, has died at age 83.

Sorvino’s death was confirmed by his daughter, Mira Sorvino, on Monday, July 25. According to Mira, Paul Sorvino died at the  the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida

“He fought and fought,” she said in a statement to Deadline. “We respected him so much as an actor and loved him so much as a father.”

Born in Brooklyn in 1937, Sorvino began his acting career in the 1970s with small roles on TV shows like Kojak and Columbo. But it was his performance as mobster Paul Cicero in Martin Scorsese’s 1990 classic Goodfellas that earned him critical acclaim.
