Indian actor, comedian, and politician, Raju Srivastava, has passed away several days after being hospitalized at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences hospital (AIIMS). Raju died aged 58.
The news of the actor’s death was announcement by the family in the early hours of Wednesday, Sept. 21. Raju Srivastava death comes as a shock to many Indians. This manifests in the manner in which they reacted to the news.
Raju Srivastava was hit by a sudden heart attack on August 10 and was rushed to the hospital. Before that, the comedian is said to have complained of chest pains while using a treadmill at a gym. A day after that he reportedly underwent angioplasty, a medical procedure done to restore blood-flow to the heart muscle without having to undergo an open-heart surgery.
At AIIMS, Raju Srivastava was being kept on life support system. However, after 15 days, he regained consciousness, and was taken off the life support.
On September 1, he was again placed on ventilator after developing a temperature as high as 100 degrees, according to a staff of the hospital.
However, on Wednesday morning, Indians were welcomed by the sad news of Raju Srivastava death. Raju gave up the ghost as he could not recover from his ailment, prompting an influx of tributes from across the world.
Leading the tributes is the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. “Raju Srivastava brightened our lives with laughter, humour and positivity,” Modi wrote in a tweet. “He leaves us too soon but he will continue to live in the hearts of countless people thanks to his rich work over the years. His demise is saddening. Condolences to his family and admirers. Om Shanti,” he added.
