Reggie Bullock Finalizes Contract Buyout with the San Antonio Spurs

The San Antonio Spurs have come to an agreement with seasoned swingman Reggie Bullock for a contract buyout, as announced by Shams Charania of The Athletic.

After clearing waivers, numerous championship-contending teams are anticipated to pursue Bullock’s services, Charania notes.

While the details of Bullock’s buyout haven’t been disclosed, he had one year left on his contract worth $10.5 million.

Speculation had arisen that Bullock might be vying for a roster spot against Cedi Osman, who was acquired from the Cavaliers in the offseason. Bullock’s departure appears to enhance Osman’s chances of remaining with the team.

San Antonio acquired Bullock in July as part of a three-team transaction that sent Grant Williams from Boston to Dallas.

Additionally, the Spurs gained the option to swap first-round picks with the Mavericks in 2030. Due to this trade, Dallas is the sole team ineligible to sign Bullock once he becomes a free agent.

Bullock, at the age of 32, spent the previous two seasons with Dallas, often serving as a part-time starter.

His scoring average dipped to 7.2 points per game last season, marking his lowest since 2018/19, although he maintained an impressive 38% shooting accuracy from beyond the arc.

His ability to stretch defenses with his three-point shooting is expected to make him a sought-after player in the open market.

The Spurs represented Bullock’s seventh team in his decade-long NBA career. The Clippers initially drafted him 25th overall in 2015, but he only found a long-term home in Detroit.

In the broader context, this transaction alleviates the roster congestion predicament faced by the San Antonio Spurs, who currently have 16 players holding guaranteed contracts.

With the roster set to be finalized for the opening night, a decision to waive or trade at least one player is imminent.

Finally, it’s worth noting that Reggie Bullock is now free to join any NBA team of his choice following his contract buyout with the Spurs.

However, it’s important to highlight that there is a unique restriction in place: he is ineligible to sign with the Dallas Mavericks due to the terms of the previous trade agreement as per Bobby Marks of ESPN.
