It appears that the ongoing Damian Lillard trade speculation is causing uncertainty for the Miami Heat’s roster plans in the upcoming season.
If the Miami Heat manage to acquire Damian Lillard from Portland Trail Blazers, the potential additions of Christian Wood and Kelly Oubre Jr. could significantly impact the team’s dynamics and performance. Keeping an eye on their developments would be wise.
“If the Heat do finally ever figure out a Dame trade…….Watch for both Christian Wood and Kelly Oubre to be on the team’s radar as possible vet minimum additions in free agency per league source.”

This offseason in the NBA has been anything but typical, allowing players like Wood and Oubre to remain available when they usually aren’t at this stage. The unique situation presents an opportunity for teams like the Heat to make unexpected moves.
While Wood may be a subject of differing opinions, he could undeniably bolster the Heat’s offense. A double-double threat with the ability to shoot from beyond the arc, he showcased solid numbers last season: averaging 16.6 points, 7.3 rebounds, shooting 51.5% from the field, and 37.6% from three-point range.

At 27, he’s flexible in playing both forward spots, and after experiencing stints with seven teams, finding stability could be appealing. The connection between Wood and the Heat has surfaced multiple times this offseason.
Oubre’s potential as a two-way player was evident in his strong offensive performance last season, averaging 20.3 points and 5.2 rebounds per game while shooting 43.1% from the field and 31.9% from beyond the arc.
There’s historical interest between Oubre and the Heat, but the priority seems to be on acquiring Lillard, as the potential additions of Wood and Oubre might hinge on that trade.
Although Portland has been reluctant to cooperate with Miami on a Lillard trade, there’s still time for an agreement before the new season. Lillard’s scoring prowess could significantly elevate the Heat’s Eastern Conference standing.
With the 2023-24 season beginning in late October, there’s a two-month window for potential changes. Time will reveal if the Heat successfully secure Lillard, along with Wood and/or Oubre, before the new season kicks off.
