However, recent updates from TMZ sports reveal that this announcement came shortly after his pregnant girlfriend shared a photo from a hospital bed.
Zion and his partner, Ahkeema, had revealed in June that they were expecting a baby girl through an extravagant gender reveal celebration.
Ahkeema mentioned recently that she was 38 weeks into her pregnancy, indicating that their child could be arriving very soon, if not already. Naturally, Zion wishes to be present for this significant moment in his life.
When he first announced his impending fatherhood, Zion was absolutely delighted and even recorded a heartfelt message for his future child, saying, “My baby, you’ll see this someday. I’m unsure about what lies ahead, but Mommy and Daddy love you.” TMZ notes.
With his absence tonight, Zion Williamson’s next chance to hit the court is set for Friday when the Pelicans take on Houston.
This season, he has been posting an average of 21.8 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 4.7 assists over the course of six games played.
