RUMOR : Contract Extension Talks With OG Anunoby Go Cold after Raptors Miss Out on Damian Lillard Sweepstakes

The Toronto Raptors are grappling with the challenge of securing an OG Anunoby contract extension, although there’s a possibility he could become a free agent next summer, as per fresh insights provided by Marc Stein.

The Toronto Raptors are facing numerous uncertainties, even surfacing in the Damian Lillard trade speculations.

However, as we approach the 2023-2024 NBA season, one of the most pressing questions revolves around the future of OG Anunoby.

He was rumored to be involved in a potential trade for Lillard, but nothing came to fruition, as the Milwaukee Bucks swooped in and acquired the Portland Trail Blazers’ star player.

So, what is the current status of this situation? NBA Insider Marc Stein possesses the most up-to-date information regarding the Anunoby scenario.

“The Raptors were indeed among the genuine suitors for Lillard, but they obviously did not trade O.G. Anunoby to Portland to actually acquire him. The belief nonetheless persists leaguewide that Anunoby will continue to rebuff any extension attempts from the Raptors ($117 million over four seasons is the most Toronto can offer) to play out this season and proceed to free agency next summer.”

All indications suggest that both Pascal Siakam and Anonoby will play through this season and venture into free agency in the summer of 2024.

Unless either player reaches an agreement, this appears to be the likely scenario. However, there remains a possibility that teams may express interest in one or both of them as the trade deadline approaches.

OG Anunoby, the Toronto Raptors’ first-round selection in the 2017 NBA Draft, is coming off an impressive season, boasting averages of 16.8 points per game, along with five rebounds and a pair of assists.

Consequently, there’s no doubt that he will be in high demand should he enter the open market.

Should the Raptors fail to reach an agreement with Anonoby, the stark reality is that this could potentially mark his final season with the franchise.
