Should Raptors Consider Trading Bruce Brown to Blazers for Jerami Grant?

According to reports, the Toronto Raptors are expected to trade Bruce Brown, who they acquired during the season through the Pascal Siakam Trade by next month.

Bleacher Report’s Andy Bailey proposed a trade where the Raptors would send Brown to the Portland Trail Blazers in exchange for Jerami Grant.

Bailey’s proposed trade involves :

Raptors receiving Jerami Grant and sending Bruce Brown, a 2028 first-round pick swap, and a 2027 second-round pick to Portland.

Grant is currently under contract for four more seasons after this one, earning around $33 million per year. This move would help clear Portland’s books for the future, as Grant would become an expiring salary.

Grant’s scoring ability, averaging between 19.2 and 22.3 points per game over the last four seasons, would be a significant boost for Toronto. His sharpshooting ability, shooting over 40% in the past two seasons, coupled with a high free-throw percentage, makes him a desirable addition to the Raptors roster.

However, Grant does have limitations in other areas of his game. While his defense is solid, it has declined as his offensive responsibilities have increased. Additionally, he struggles as a rebounder, finisher inside, and playmaker.

Securing Grant would lock the Raptors into his contract for the next four seasons, along with other hefty contracts for players such as Scottie Barnes, Immanuel Quickley, and RJ Barrett.

However, it might not be a wise move for a Raptors team in transition, especially when factoring in the draft picks involved in the trade.
