Following Team USA’s triumph over France in the Men’s Basketball Gold Medal Game at the Paris 2024 Olympics, several prominent players, including Steph Curry, Kevin Durant, and Anthony Edwards, were unexpectedly required to undergo drug testing.
The testing occurred immediately after their 98-87 victory, which marked the United States’ fifth consecutive Olympic Gold Medal in Men’s basketball.
Anthony Edwards, of the Minnesota Timberwolves, shared the news during an interview at Fanatics Fest- saying that the surprise drug tests hindered their ability to fully celebrate the win in the locker room. Despite the disruption, such tests are a routine measure to uphold fair play and ensure compliance with Olympic regulations.
Anthony Edwards says he, Steph Curry and Kevin Durant had to be Drug-Tested after @TeamUSA beat France 🇫🇷 for the Gold Medal 🥇 at #ParisOlympics. During the Paris 2024 Olympics, the International Testing Agency (ITA) took charge of organizing and overseeing the anti-doping program. Operating independently, the ITA ensures adherence to the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Code. Additionally, the French Anti-Doping Agency (AFLD) worked alongside the ITA to enforce the anti-doping measures.
Officials say the tests are designed to maintain the integrity of the competition and ensure that all athletes compete on a level playing field.
