Utah Jazz have decided to guarantee Kris Dunn’s salary of $2,586,665 for the 2023/24 season, reports Tony Jones of The Athletic.
This move was anticipated, with Dunn’s salary guarantee date originally set for October 23, but now, a couple of days in advance, it’s confirmed that his previously non-guaranteed contract will indeed be fully guaranteed.
Kris Dunn has shown remarkable improvement in his NBA career since joining the Utah Jazz late last season.
In the 2022/23 season, he put up impressive numbers, averaging 13.2 points, 5.6 assists, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.1 steals per game in 22 appearances, playing an average of 25.8 minutes per game. Notably, he boasted a strong 3.5-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio, a notable feat for a point guard.
During the five preseason games this fall, Dunn continued to perform well, averaging 8.0 points, 2.8 assists, and 1.6 steals in just 15.2 minutes per game.
Kris Dunn’s career has taken a remarkable turn, as he spent most of the previous season in the G League and had limited appearances in the NBA with the Hawks and Trail Blazers between 2020 and 2022, partly due to knee and ankle injuries.
While Dunn has always been known for his strong defensive abilities, his scoring efficiency has significantly improved in the past year.
He transformed two 10-day contracts with Utah into a two-year deal worth over $3.3 million.
With his unrestricted free agency approaching next summer, Dunn is likely to be in high demand on the open market if he continues his impressive performance in the 2023/24 season.
