Lonzo Ball Exercises $21.4 Million Contract Option with Bulls for 2024-2025 Season

Chicago Bulls guard, Lonzo Ball, has decided to exercise his contract option for the 2024-2025 season, which amounts to $21.4 million, as per a report by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

This decision was pretty straightforward since Ball hasn’t played since January 2022 due to knee issues. He’s had several surgeries on his left knee, including a cartilage transplant in 2023.

While there’s optimism about his recovery for next season, his future on the court is uncertain. If he had opted for free agency, he likely wouldn’t have received a contract surpassing $21.4 million due to his injury.

Ball had stints with the Lakers and the Pelicans before joining the Bulls in 2021. In his initial games with the Bulls, he showcased his skills, but his injury halted his progress.

His contract option doesn’t guarantee his presence on the team for the 2024/25 season. If his injury is career-ending, the Bulls could release him without bearing his cap hit. Alternatively, he could be traded to match salaries, considering his expiring contract.

If Ball remains with the Bulls and continues to recover well, he could return to the rotation next season. In his absence, players like Coby White and Ayo Dosunmu have stepped up in the backcourt, but if Ball can regain his pre-injury form, he’d be a valuable addition to the team.
